Emerald Communities welcomed Michelle Wood nearly four years ago as the Controller. After serving as CFO of a public relations firm that was owned by the world’s largest communications company and owning her own high-end pet supply retail store that she was very passionate about, she decided to bring her keen accounting expertise to Redmond’s Life Plan Community, Emerald Heights.
As the Controller, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the accounting department which includes AR/AP, payroll, treasury, fixed assets and financial statements.
Back in 2015, Michelle helped implement a new community-wide software program that was no easy task, but definitely necessary to improve efficiency. The entire process took about six months and while Michelle devoted nearly 85 percent of her time to this significant upgrade, she explains how the challenging experience was worth it in the end.
While she doesn’t get to see the residents as much as she would like to, it’s humbling to see the impact her role makes on the residents. “While I suppose everything in the service industry helps someone in some regard, this is more tangible. Seeing their smiles and helping residents enjoy this stage of their life – it’s a real privilege,” Michelle enlightens.
While Michelle loves her position with Emerald Heights, she still makes time for animals – her true passion in life. She volunteers for animal causes when time allows and enjoys spoiling and pampering her two dogs, Sade and Finley.
